In May 2023, Eurovision was staged in Liverpool – instead of being in the traditional winning country of the prior year, Ukraine (due to the war situation). The UK had been the runner-up in 2022 and its representative star performer, Sam Ryder, was therefore invited to perform his then new single “Mountain” in Liverpool.
