“Just A Minute” on BBC TV – In Memory of Nicholas Parsons R.I.P.

AOB had occasion to fondly revisit this unique project upon the sad death of Nicholas Parsons CBE, the legendary and sole presenter of this British broadcasting treasure for over 50 years. As a co-venturer with the rights-owning Messiter Estate and in an executive producer role, AOB negotiated and concluded a licence of the format “Just-a-Minute” with BBC Television. Ten episodes of the television version of the programme were made and broadcast daily on BBC2 – weekdays at 6 p.m. for a fortnight in April 2012 – to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the show on radio.
Every episode was helmed by the original host, Nicholas Parsons and featured ‘JAM’ stalwart, Paul Merton, who was joined by three other celebrity players, including variously: Stephen Fry, Graham Norton, Julian Clary, Sue Perkins, Marcus Brigstocke, Tony Hawkes, Gyles Brandreth, Phill Jupitus, and Hugh Bonneville et al.

The co-venturing team – Malcolm Messiter (heir to his father’s creation), Dej Mahoney/Jonathan Dembo (Directors, AOB Ltd); Peter Langley (CEO, Origin Ltd) – retained international format rights for TV and multi-platform exploitation outside the UK.
On celebrating its 50th anniversary on radio, “Just A Minute” received a special recorded message from HRH The Prince of Wales in recognition of this great British institution: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2016/hrh-prince-of-wales-just-a-minute
