Boavista FC, Porto

AOB were engaged as exclusive brokers to the Club President of Boavista F.C. in his fundraising effort to refinance his club. Through its investment banking contacts, AOB sourced a high-net worth industrialist from Angola in the year of his country’s first-ever qualification for the Football World Cup, drawn in the same group as their former colonial masters, Portugal (where the investor already had a portfolio of commercial interests).
The original introduction to Boavista was made by Nicola Cortese, then of Credit Suisse Private Banking with whom AOB also enjoyed ‘approved introducing broker’ status. When the English Premier League’s Southampton F.C. was acquired by a former private client of Cortese, he was installed as Chairman and famously recruited manager, Maurizio Pochettino (now of Tottenham Hotspur F.C.).
