IN MEMORIAM – REVEREND JOSEPH LOWERY/”I DREAM” AT OPERA CAROLINA

At the end of March, the world mourned the death of a great Civil Rights leader, Reverend Joseph Lowery, co-founder with Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Reverend Lowery memorably gave the benediction at the inauguration of President Obama in January 2009 and also attended the Atlanta, Georgia premiere of AOB’s co-production of musical drama, “I Dream”, based on the life of his friend and comrade-without-arms, Dr. King. The latest production run of “I Dream” – in partnership with Opera Carolina – was scheduled to be staged at the 2,000-seat Belk Theatre in Charlotte, North Carolina in April 2020, but has had to be postponed due to the global pandemic.
